Sunrise Resort South appears to be a budget-friendly motel located close to the beach and local amenities, with a retro vibe. However, recent reviews highlight significant issues with inconsistent service, cleanliness, and operational reliability, including instances of deceptive booking practices and property closures.
Horrible experience. A person who identified himself as "Roger" insisted I pay for additional parking despite having booked 3 rooms for 12 people, and this policy not being anywhere online. he asked for $50 for the additional spots and would only accept cash. After pointing me to an ATM that did not function, I returned and insisted I pay card, after a long verbal argument with Roger I was able to get him to accept the card. Before paying, I asked why this policy wasn't online, he simply pointed to a piece of paper taped to the desk. I looked at the paper, and it said the price for the extra cars should be $40, so I demanded I pay that instead of $50. This whole process was incredibly scammy, and I truly believe the clerk was simply going to pocket the cash had I not put up a fight. This was an insane process to simply check in and park my cars.
This motel is truly a hidden gem! You are a short walk to the beach and across the street from Starbucks. There is a breakfast restaurant on the same block called the boxer. I highly recommend their breakfast skillet. Raj has great people skills very friendly and accommodating. I greatly appreciate him. He was always available if I had questions or needed assistance. TV worked fine. Noise levels were minimal bed was comfortable and the room was clean housekeeping is very friendly. I found an affordable place to stay when I visit Clearwater and now I plan on coming monthly love the fact that parking is included for a prime area you can’t ask for more.i felt safe and welcome. Highly recommend.
The man at the front desk was very nice. The pool that is advertised is not usable. The rooms are run down. There are blinds without curtains so light shines through making sleep difficult. There was only one washcloth available. The location is perfect. You are close to restaurants, shops, and the beach/pier.
I'd recommend this place 100% for a budget option. Felt safe and secure. It's not "luxury" like some nearby options, but I'd argue has more charm to it and a old-fashionedness spin to it. Close to beach, food options, etc. Front desk guy was cool.
If you have realistic expectations, you will be happy here. I wasn't expecting a polished hotel, and it wasn't. However, it is close to the beach, includes free parking, was clean, has microwave & mini fridge, and the man that checked me in was very pleasant. It is very easy to walk to a variety of restaurants. If you are a Starbucks fan, it is across the street. A couple bars of soap are provided, but no shampoo conditioner. There is a mini coffee pot and a packet of coffee, but no cup or sweeter/creamer. The television was a good size for the room with clear channels. The bed was comfortable. The floors are laminate planks which are great for a hotel close to the beach. The negatives: The windows are very thin so it is loud with traffic sounds and people until late at night. The blinds do not block out the streetlights so you won't be sleeping in darkness. I would rather have 2 top sheets than a blanket/bed covering that I don't know if it is washed each time. While it wasn't an issue for me, the doorway to the bathroom was narrow so a big person might not like it. Another thing that wasn't an issue for me because I am short is the low showerhead, but an average height man would need to duck down to wash their hair.
This is a retro vibe motel. Very clean, minimal amenities in the room. Nice pool, also clean. It was 250 steps from the door to the beach. Excellent location near a public access that was crowded but nice.
Ok so I understand I did not pay 400+ a night for room, but I expect clean towels at the least. Arrived Friday, weeds all around the pool. Garbage not picked up again around pool and hallways front of rooms. No maid all weekend long, so had to go get own towels, ask for garbage bags, and toilet paper. Not what I want to do on Vacation. NO garbage can in bathroom and no Fan can’t open window. Gate off pool fence laying on ground. Only 4 lounge chairs around pool and 3 plastic chairs outside all the rooms to sit in. Oh and bring your own dish towels and dishcloths, and dish soap. No Ice Machine, and hit or miss if you find anyone in office. Convenience is key. But also very disappointing.
Review: Total Scam – Do Not Book I booked a two-night stay at this hotel, only to arrive and realize it was completely abandoned and not taking customers. There were no staff, no activity, and the property looked shut down. When I tried calling the listed contact number, it was non-functional. Beneath it, there was a secondary phone number, which I also called—but no one ever responded. With no other options, I started asking around and, by sheer luck, stumbled upon the owner at the adjacent property. He acknowledged receiving my calls but had deliberately chosen not to return them. Instead, he had my printed reservation in hand, clearly expecting a revenue-generating customer, despite the hotel being entirely non-operational. He then directed me to stay at the adjacent property, which I did not book and which was visibly under renovation, with contractors working on-site. When he gestured toward the so-called lobby, it was clear the place was shut down—the POS system was disconnected, and yet he still had the audacity to suggest I pay $400 in cash for two nights in a hotel that wasn’t even functional. This is outright fraud. The owner knowingly takes reservations for a closed hotel and tries to push guests into an unfinished, unlivable space for cash. Even when renovations are done, do not trust this place. Avoid at all costs.
I just wanted to post that this establishment will be closed through Dec 15 at least. We booked through Booking .com which we thought was a safe bet, flew to our motel only to find it closed. Our fault for not checking through establishment to make sure they were open, their fault for not removing a closed location from their website. It's not fun looking for a new place to stay.
I hope u don't pass booking here because of some of the bad reviews, yes it is an old motel but it is 1 block off beachfront, about $200 cheaper than surrounding places, and renovated to look better inside the rooms. There was hot water, just took a minute to get heated, and no roaches! (Unlike what some wrote on here) I would stay here again, great location 1 block from Pier 60! The front desk were very nice also. To save $200 I can't find anything bad to say about Sunrise, and I think they're unfairly rated by some!
