Tropical Inn & Suites consistently receives positive reviews, primarily highlighting the friendly and accommodating owner, Mike, along with a clean and comfortable environment. Guests appreciate the convenient location and affordable rates, particularly for travelers attending events in Clearwater. However, some concerns have been raised regarding inconsistent check-in procedures, lack of amenities, and occasional cleanliness issues.
We stayed on 2/24/2026. It’s very clean and inviting. I would have loved to stay longer! Such a relaxing place. The owner is wonderful and very accommodating.
Such a beautiful place to stay! The owner Mike was so kind and fantastic. We absolutely will be coming back. The room was clean exactly as pictured and so close to downtown Clearwater in a safe neighbourhood we definitely will be coming back!
My friends and I stayed here to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The owner Mike was amazing! Super friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here. Great price for what you get. Everything is clean and comfortable!
I stayed here in January 2026 and you can tell that the owners take great pride in their property. Room was clean, modern fixtures, good tile work throughout bathroom, and conveniently located to walk to stores and restaurants for morning coffee and quick bites. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Clearwater
Very clean very pretty motel. We spent six nights here in early January and loved it very much. The outdoor courtyard with tables umbrellas and palm trees was so pleasant to sit in every day. The pool area is clean and comfortable. The room had a microwave and refrigerator. Things to know: 1. There are no coffee makers in the rooms so prepare accordingly 2. There is not daily housekeeping, however if you need more towels or soap or shampoo or any other provided amenities the owners are very quick to respond and give you whatever you need. 3. Parking is an additional $10 per day. All of these cost-saving measures are what make this such an affordable place to stay and also very nice The neighborhood is very walkable with grocery stores and restaurants less than 5 minutes. There is a bus stop right in front of the motel and a laundromat right beside it so everything is very convenient whether you have a car or not.
This was a great little place to stay. The owner was extremely nice, the grounds were clean and pretty, rooms were clean, microwave and fridge, and just a couple miles from the beach. Will absolutely come back to stay again!
The room looked likes it was recently remodeled, large and the owner was kind. My husband is disabled and he was able to accommodate us. Thank you for the great service. If we ever come back to Clearwater, we'll definitely stay here again.
the room was nice, and i wouldn't be leaving one star if he hadn't been so rude to me. a lot of the 5 star reviews from people with one or two reviews seem suspicious to me. better off just avoiding this place. i was charged $124 for a one night stay, the owner told me he only charge me $109 for a 2nd night if i decided to stay another night. i was up early and realized there was no coffee, i checked the website and realized also no breakfast. since i was on the website i checked the room prices and they were $91 dollars on their own website (with all taxes and fees). i went to the front office about 5 times between 6-10am and no one was there. i didn't have a US phone number to call the number printed on the door. i wrote an email to them when i got home just to get some clarification on why i was charged so much more, and the owner called me and proceeded to tell me i was dumb for not just sitting in my car outside the office and booking it online if it was cheaper, and that i was committing fraud by making a complaint. he didn't have time to read my short email that explained everything, but he had enough time to yell at me on the phone.
We tried 2 different rooms & then we were told he would refund us. First room the floor was soaked under neath the air conditioner & the floor was bowing out. It also smelled like mildew. We asked for a new room. New room had ants all over the toilet & bath tub. We went back to the front office & he said “I’ll just issue you a refund”. For $117/night, my room better be clean & smell good. Wouldn’t recommend, although he was nice & not rude or aggressive at all.
TL; DR. Cute renovated hotel in an excellent location just horrible beds and even worse communication with the owners when trying to resolve issues. THANK YOU HOWARD JOHNSON OF CLEARWATER/DUNEDIN FOR PICKING UP THE SLACK THAT THIS PLACE COULDNT DO. I booked through booking.com. forgot that I hadn't put my two year old on there. They do charge for kids, no matter the age. Then I paid for a late check out. There was another fee added after all of that as well. Checked in around 5 pm on 11/1/25. Room 108 I believe. Dropped our stuff off, turned the air down, headed to sand key to catch the sunset. Came back around 730 to lay down while the boyfriend and our son went to grab food. 5 minutes into laying down, I couldn't do it. The beds are beyond uncomfortable. Im 5'6, 280 pounds and the mattresses were thinner and bouncer and you could feel the springs stabbing into you. Both of them felt that way. The bedding was also itchy. The whole wall would shake when doors would close and they were thin. Went to the front desk and told them we would like to check out. The lady at the front desk heard my story and apologized and said that all the mattresses were the same and onlt a cople of months old. She also said that since it was after 5 and I had already checked in that there was nothing they could do but she would let the manager know. Check in begins at 330 so you only have an hour and a half to decide if you like it apparently. Almost a week later and they havent responded to me nor booking.com request on some kind of refund. Next up will be going through my bank and disputing it since they suddenly cant answer messages Im not sure how they have a 4.3 and howard johnson of clearwater and dunedin have a 3.6 considering that they saved me that night.
