This charming, budget-friendly beachfront property offers excellent ocean views and convenient proximity to the sand, but guests frequently report issues with overall cleanliness, outdated rooms, and pest problems like roaches.
Always had such a great time and the staff was the best! Unfortunately due to the hurricanes helen and milton, the d time florida hotel had to much damage to be reopend and is now no longer in existence. Thank you to the staff and the great zucchini for such an amazing experience and the magic show the great zucchini would do for the kids! Gonna miss yall!
BOOKED A ROOM OUTTA TOWN FOR WORK AND COULDNT STAY BECAUSE THE HOTEL WAS UNDERWATER DUE TO STORM SURGE. THEY WILL NOT REFUND ME MY MONEY BECAUSE OF THE “NO REFUND” POLICY!! I THINK THIS IS BULL CRAP!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
Room was ready hours prior. Awesome service at the desk. Location is amazing. Right on the beach.. beautiful sunset.. we were able to park early. now for the negatives: room smelled to the point I got a severe migraine that lasted two days and i only stayed 1 night. We left as soon as I woke up. I am very sensitive to mold mildew and perfume smells. No heat and didn't realize that til after the office closed, which is 4pm. I was scared to sleep under the blanket which i didnt. This is a no on my maderia beach stays. Kind of expensive for what it was.. really outdated and needs a big face-lift inside.. this room 111 should be checked as to why it smells so bad ? ? it smelled of roach bait/spray for the palmetto bugs. ?
The views and location are excellent. The property itself could use some polishing though. Small things like missing light fixture globes, or the strings on the blinds missing and/or broken could be fixed. As the hotel is in a damp location being next to the gulf, wiping the accumulated grime off the window frames would also help boost the appeal. Overall I wouldn't stay again, but I also wouldn't recommend someone not stay. The staff is friendly and helpful, it's just not for me.
I arrived at the Schooner hotel on Monday and had booked my room through Friday. The front desk guy was really nice and informative. The check in process was super fast. The walk to my room (109) from the reception office was quick and really pretty. There’s a court yard with lots of tropical trees and plants and the ocean being RIGHT THERE was breathtaking. I got to my room and was happy to see that it was clean, brightly lit, and had some modern upgrades to it cosmetically. I had read the reviews on this hotel prior to booking and I felt like I had a grasp on what I had booked: a small mom and pop hotel that’s been around for a while, very cheap, a little run down on the outside, but close to the beach. And that’s all true. My first two days were amazing - being on the beach is a game changer. There’s no doubt about it: the location is SWEET! It was nice to be able to be steps away from my room when at the beach - super convenient. Good service note to highlight: my friend had sat down on the edge of our king size bed and one of the bed frame feet broke underneath him. We went up to the front desk and I told the guy about it before we left to go out shopping. He was appreciative that we said something, and by the time we were back from shopping, the bed was fixed! Unfortunately, we only stayed 2/4 booked nights. The weather in the area took a turn and we experienced heavy tropical rain. Because of that rain, the roaches came out. I’m not sure where they came from - the drains? Tiny holes? We spotted multiple, killed a couple. Then we both looked at each other and we KNEW we couldn’t sleep in that room with the cockroaches (everyone calls them palmettos, but rest assured, they are cockroaches). We quickly booked a room at a different hotel on Wednesday night for the rest of our stay. I called the front desk the next morning and told the guy that I left and I wasn’t coming back because of the roaches. He said “okay, I’ll refund you for last night and tonight” it was SUPER simple - honestly, it seemed like he was used to it. If you’re okay with sleeping with roaches, it’s a great location at a cheap rate. I, however, will not be coming back. I gave this hotel 2 stars because the staff was really friendly and the location is amazing. But I would not recommend this hotel to my friends or family because of the roaches. I recommend spending a little extra on a nicer hotel if you’re planning on coming to the area.
The service is excellent. The location is right on the beach. The room is small but offers a kitchette, refrigerator and coffee maker.. the room is small but is very comfortable. The grounds keeper was always on it and the staff were really nice. The hotel could definitely use an update but overall for the price and view, It was very nice for a quick week on the ??.
Front desk associate was super helpful, accommodating, kind and professional. This establishment is under new management and they are fixing and updating many previous issues with property. Room was perfect and cozy with a stove sink small table toaster coffee maker pots pans ect. Living room was lovely and we had a view of the ocean which I was informed the trees were cut back so the view was created just recently. Staff was kind and efficient. Only 40 feet to the beach and you can fall asleep to the crashing ocean waves. For the price and services, accommodations this hotel was great. Thank you
We just came home from this place again. Stayed for 2 days...still give a 5 star! From May 31, 2020 to June 2 2020... Managers Jim and Diane are wonderful people! Very accomodating, great service! We had a couple room issues not of their fault, but they took care of us! All the housekeeping and maintenance staff are so friendly! We observed from other guests too that have been customers for over 20 years...it is like they are family! Great service and excellent proximity to a fantastic white sand beach on the gulf of Mexico. Cheaper prices than nearby multi-story resorts. It's a charming mom and pop resort with character, although not nearly as spacious as the much more expensive neighbors. If it's the beach experience you value over the room luxuries, this is a great fit.
