The Vinoy Resort & Golf Club is a historic landmark offering a luxurious experience in St. Petersburg, Florida. Guests consistently praise the hotel's stunning architecture, elegant ambiance, and exceptional service, particularly highlighting the spa and the warm staff. However, some recent reviews have raised concerns about inconsistent service and housekeeping.
The Vinoy Team was absolutely amazing! I am a Wedding Planner and loved working with Maddie for the preplanning and so many Team Members onsite the day of the event! They made everything absolutely seamless and everyone we came into contact with Event Staff, Catering Staff, Hotel Staff in the halls was so kind and always willing to go above and beyond! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and care for their Wedding Day! The Property and Location is amazing and has plenty of spaces for overnight accommodations of all sizes!
Very nice hotel in great position with an old world feel - we didn’t try the restaurants but did have in room dining which was decent . Also used the hotel e-bikes which was a great way to look around . Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were a good size and had comfortable beds. One of the drawbacks in the room was the inability to open any windows and despite having good air con it made the room stuffy and hot when we arrived back to the room after an excursion.
The Vinoy is exceptional. We traveled as a couple and loved everything from the stunning pool and pool bar to the effortless luxury throughout the property. The lobby is so enchanting with the florals to the rich history on the mezzanine level. Every food & beverage outlet was excellent, with Elliot Aster standing out , we loved it so much we ate there three times! The staff truly understands hospitality: warm, attentive, and knowledgeable at every turn. Plus, the walkability of downtown St. Petersburg made the stay even better. An iconic hotel that lives up to the hype — we can’t wait to return.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about the Vinoy Spa. From the moment I arrived, everyone was kind, welcoming, professional, and genuinely caring. The spa itself is absolutely beautiful and incredibly relaxing—exactly what you hope for in a luxury spa experience. Christine, in particular, made my experience truly unforgettable. She took the time to ask thoughtful questions and really listen. When she learned that I had recently lost my home in a hurricane, she went above and beyond to make sure I felt cared for, supported, and completely at ease. Her kindness, compassion, and professionalism meant more to me than I can adequately put into words. Every person I encountered at the spa reflected that same level of warmth and excellence, but Christine truly made my visit extra special. This was more than just a spa day—it was a moment of healing and comfort during a very difficult time. I am so grateful and highly recommend the Vinoy Spa to anyone looking for an exceptional, heartfelt experience.
I just returned from a stay at the Vinoy and I have very mixed opinions. I was going back and forth between the Vinoy and Don Cesar but based on location, the Vinoy won. I was there for two nights, checked in on Sunday afternoon. I was a little surprised that no one was there to help with my bags but wasn’t a big deal since I only had a carry-on. I went to the front desk and there was one young man there (Gavin) helping a woman. He was smiling, showing her the map of the hotel, providing dinner recommendations, the works. When he was finally done, I stepped up and his whole demeanor changed, actually the complete opposite. No hello, welcome barely a smile. He asked for ID and a credit card. Checked me in, took out the map showed me where my room was (made sure to tell me to take the elevator since I had bags and had to go to the lower level) and didn’t offer any type of recommendation for anything…I took my keys and drink cards and headed to my room. I went to the pool and the guy who set up my chair was lovely as was the woman serving drinks/food. She checked on me several times and was so pleasant. Unfortunately, that was not the case the next day, Monday. I had another awkward encounter with Gavin, where I stopped at the front desk and asked him about using my drink card since I forgot to use it the day before. You would have thought I was speaking another language (which I wasn’t) the way Gavin looked me and acted like he didn’t understand what I was saying. And once again, he was helping another woman before me with a completely different demeanor. I found him to be aloof and dismissive. Almost as if he was too good to be helping ME. Ok, so off to the pool. It was about 11:30 and there were plenty of seats and I had a very nice pool attendant who found me a great spot and set up my chair. The woman taking drink and food orders came over and introduced herself and said she would be taking care of me for the day. Unfortunately, I did not get her name but she was an older woman and was there the entire time I was there from 11:30-4:30. That was the one and only time I saw her. I tried to wave make, eye contact when she ran by or even came close to my seat (I was by the hot tub where the handicap seat is) but to no avail, I was ignored. I noticed she checked on the families near me, the group of guys, the couples but for 5 hours I couldn’t even get a “are you doing ok?” Finally at 2:15, I walked to Parasol to order food and she was at the bar. She didn’t acknowledge me, I asked the bartender (who was actually nice) if I could order from him and he said absolutely, while the whole time she was putting in her other orders at the register and not paying me any attention. I actually ended up ordering from the other restaurant (Paul’s Landing) and that was fine. You never want to go to the place of was it because I’m African American and was the only single, African American woman at the pool? But sadly, in this case I can’t help but think it for both instances with the front desk experience and the pool lady… Lastly, housekeeping….didn’t even get it on my last day. When I returned to my room after my pool day at about 4:45, the room had not been cleaned and I did not have the do not disturb sign on the door. I called and asked to have someone come, they showed up at about 5:45 and asked if I needed towels, clearly not intending to clean my room…. So all in all, not horrible, but definitely not great. Not sure I would come back or recommend.
This is a very pretty hotel, but when we asked for a late checkout, we were told that the latest they could do was 2pm, despite being Platinum members with Marriott, which advertises one of their perks being a checkout time of 4pm if the hotel has availability, which I did not think would be a problem on a random Monday. When I asked for an extension to even 3pm I was told that only cheaper hotels offer 4pm check out, not the autograph collection. I've stayed at several autograph Marriotts, and this is not the case. I do not know why the man at the front desk lied and assumed I have not stayed at other expensive hotels to know that he was lying. Also, it is odd to say that cheaper hotels will have better customer service and be more accommodating instead of just accommodating my request. When I asked to just extend my reservation to another night, the front desk was unable to make this accommodation, saying they would need to speak with a manager, then that the manager went on break, so they would have to try "something else" to even provide me with a rate for the night and then book it. After they tried to use their computer for another 5 minutes or so I was so frustrated that I wound up just leaving and finding another place to work out of. For the amount per night I expected much better customer service or for the rooms to be noteworthy. There are so many much nicer hotels where you are also treated much better. If you don't mind the drive, I highly recommend the Edition in Tampa. It is modern, new, beautiful, and everyone working there is so kind. If you do want to go the Vinoy for photos, just get lunch or breakfast at their restaurants, take your photos, and stay somewhere nicer by both aesthetically, as well as personality-wise.
Stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed the hotel. The rooms were very clean. A little small but I think that’s to be expected in a boutique hotel. The staff was all very friendly. Coffee was delicious. Housekeeping was kind and accommodating. We asked for the AC to be dropped a little more that normal and they were able to do it with no problems. Had packages delivered there without fail. Boutique store inside is super cute. Room service was good. Would entirely stay there again. If you’re looking to stay in this area this is a great hotel!
Suzanne (Susan) is truly an asset to your hotel! From the moment we arrived, she was warm, welcoming, and cheerful - such a pleasure to interact with. Her customer service is outstanding. When we had a small issue, she didn't brush it off or pass it along; she immediately made calls and took care of everything for us. She's a real credit to your team! Also, Our room was spotless, with a comfortable bed and plenty of soft, fluffy pillows that made for an excellent night's sleep. We especially loved the balcony - and the fact that so many rooms have them! The water views were absolutely stunning - don’t hesitate to book this hotel you won’t be disappointed.
This hotel was magical. The flower arrangement in the lobby was gorgeous, my room was big, the bed was comfy, and the restaurant, Elliott Aster, was great. The voucher for two drinks upon check-in was appreciated. I also loved that they give guests five post cards to send to friends and family. They mailed them out for me too. Very cute idea. Absolutely iconic property. I really enjoyed my stay and can’t wait to go back.
I didn’t stay overnight at The Vinoy Resort, but I had the chance to walk around the property—and it left a lasting impression. The historic charm and elegant architecture make it one of the most beautiful spots in St. Petersburg. The grounds are immaculate, and the views of the waterfront are stunning. I’ve heard nothing but great things from friends and fellow travelers who’ve stayed here—especially about the service, dining, and relaxing pool area. It’s clear that The Vinoy offers a luxury experience with a rich history. Even just walking the property makes you want to come back and book a stay!
