The Ponce De Leon Boutique Hotel offers a historic downtown St. Pete location with decent value, but consistently receives mixed reviews regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and amenities. While the staff is generally friendly, several guests reported issues with outdated rooms, plumbing problems, and a lack of consistent upkeep. Despite its charm, some visitors felt the hotel didn’t match the advertised photos and fell short of expectations for the price point.
I love this hotel. If you ever need a nice spot right downtown, you should stay here. It is an old historic building so do not expect a ton of modern upgrades and hotel accommodations that you may find elsewhere, but it is cute and quaint. I liked that you could walk everywhere and parking was cheap for the night. Sucked having to carry our bags, but if you are prepared, drop your bags off and park after. The staff was very friendly and other guests were nice. Honestly, for the location the price is very affordable and I would stay again. It was clean when we stayed, can't ask for much more.
This is a cool hotel because of the history but it doesn't have much character inside. The lobby is tiny and the rooms are dated. The bar downstairs and restaurant nextdoor are great! You can't beat the location but be aware that you also have to pay for parking across the street which is 16 a day. As others have noted the water pressure leaves a lot to be desired and I wasn't able to get hot water but it was warm. If you can get a good deal on a room it's fine but I wouldn't choose this hotel over others in the area for the same price. The front desk woman was super nice and helpful though!!! Not a bad experience but meh overall.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Ponce De Leon Hotel in St. Pete! The hotel itself is beautiful and full of historic charm, which made the experience feel really unique and special. The views were incredible, and the atmosphere had such a warm, inviting energy. What stood out the most was how accommodating and attentive the staff were throughout my stay. A special shoutout to Eddy at the front desk—he went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and made me feel genuinely welcomed from the moment I arrived. If you’re looking for a place that combines history, comfort, and amazing service, I highly recommend staying here. I’ll definitely be back!
Going to give anyone interested a fair warning. I was in room 203. The shower would not get hot at all. The floors were torn from the bedframe. The bedframe also is a platform style in a small space so I have a bruise on my leg from that. I understand it’s a hotel but I could hear people having relations practically any time I was in the room. The lighting isn’t the greatest in the bathroom so if you do makeup consider bringing a light up vanity mirror or ring light because I had a hard time seeing what I was doing. Location is good but so is a nice warm shower.
First off, the staff is great, rooms not so much. There was a bleach stain on the comforter and for some reason no microwave. The toilet placement is for children or anorexic adults. There's no parking lot so just know that going in. Other than that it's walking distance to the main strip downtown if that's important to you.
Here is a detailed explanation of why I did not enjoy my stay here and a few things to consider. I want to mention first that all of the employees here treated me well. Specifically Meril. The photos depict a beautiful historic hotel with a casual ambiance, nothing too fancy. That’s what I was expecting. We booked for a two queen bedroom. When we walked into the room, we were greeted with the standards of a Motel 6 room. It was old, not cleaned properly, and semi stinky. The mirrors in both the room(s) and the elevator were covered in fingerprints. As a housekeeper myself, I could tell that the bathroom was a second thought. The soaps weren’t placed professionally by the sink or in the shower. This isn’t me looking too deep, it shows they are okay with cutting corners and not holding themselves to a higher cleaning standard. Once I realized this was not what I paid for, I went downstairs and spoke with Meril. I kindly explained that this was not at all what their website photos show and if there were a way I could get the room I saw online. I was told that they couldn’t take a photo of every room so that was just a room that is shown while booking. (aka a model room) Meril let us see two other rooms that were available. We walked into the first and it was another unsatisfactory room, only this one smelled horrid. We walked down the hallway to the second room which is the one we stayed in. It was better. It had two beds, a decent bathroom, and a pretty view. Silly of me to forget pictures of that. This was room 616 if you want to request it. When we came back from a night out, we found out we had no hot water. I ran it for about 5 minutes before going downstairs. I was quite frustrated now. I went back and forth with a man named Eurk, I don’t know how to spell it. He kind of brushed me off and made me seem like a nuisance for complaining about not having hot (or warm) water in my hotel room at midnight. He brought me to a room across the hallway (611) and tested the water. He said I can shower and use the bathroom until morning. I washed my face in the sink and went on with my night. When I went to shower the next morning, I saw two used washcloths and exfoliating gloves hanging over the curtain, which I’ve included in the last photo. I truly almost burst into flames. If the housekeepers can’t even pull down a used washcloth… do you think they’re cleaning the handle of the toilet well? Anyways, I took a lukewarm shower in my room and had to accept the circumstances until the end of our stay. I spoke with another man who’s name I can’t remember and he gave me his sincere apologies. He said the water heater is too small for the hotel. Whoever owns and/or runs this hotel needs to address this immediately. It is clearly stated on their website that they have no parking but I’m here to warn you… the parking garage is down the road. Good thing to keep in mind if you don’t have a rolling suitcase. Otherwise not a big problem. I would not recommend this hotel but the location is a great spot for walking downtown.
We had a wonderful stay at the Ponce de Leon Hotel. The location is perfect—close to great restaurants, the bay and everything downtown has to offer. It is a boutique hotel with lots of character, and the rooms were clean, and comfortable. What truly made the stay stand out was the exceptional customer service from Eddy at the front desk. He was welcoming, professional, and genuinely kind from the moment we arrived. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth, answered questions with a great attitude, and made us feel truly valued as a guests. He made a lasting impression and is a real asset to the hotel. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Ponce de Leon Hotel.
An old and historic hotel and that’s exactly what makes it special. You can feel the history in every corner of the building. Plus, its location right in the heart of downtown means you can reach everything within walking distance. Special thanks to Beril for making my stay even more enjoyable! I will definitely be back. ?
5.0 out of 5 stars – Absolutely charming and highly recommend! I just stayed at the Ponce de Leon Hotel in downtown St. Pete, and it was fantastic from check-in to check-out. This historic spot has such a cool vintage vibe—think classic 1920s architecture with all the comforts that really captures the charm of old St. Petersburg. The room was spotless and very clean, which is always a top priority for me. Everything was good enough and well-maintained, and the price and location couldn't be better—right in the heart of downtown, steps from great restaurants, the waterfront, and all the action. But what really stood out was the staff, especially Eddie at the front desk. He was super accommodating, incredibly friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Eddie truly made the stay special—he's amazing and deserves all the shoutouts! The cleaning lady was very welcoming and helpful too. I'll definitely be back and would choose this place every time I'm in St. Pete. If you're looking for a good price, clean, character-filled boutique hotel with outstanding service, look no further. Thanks again, Eddie—you rock!
Stayed here for overnight and glad it was only for one night. Pros: Good location, metered parking around the hotel and friendly staff. Apparently the hot water and heat was malfunctioning when I arrived so the lady working the front desk was kind enough to check the rooms to make sure everything was in working order. Cons: hotel is old and musty. Hallways of the hotel is not well kept. Room was decent size but the bed was the worse bed Ive slept on. Couch seems like it has been there for 50 years. Bathroom sink had rust all over the faucet. AC is super noisy and window shades don’t even cover the entire length from ceiling to floor. There was also dirt fridge as if it was not cleaned before I arrived. Wouldn’t recommend this hotel to friends and or family in the future.
