The Ponce De Leon Boutique Hotel is centrally located in downtown St. Petersburg, offering convenient access to attractions and dining. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room cleanliness, aging infrastructure, and parking challenges. While staff are generally friendly, significant renovations and addressing recurring maintenance issues are needed to elevate the guest experience.
Going to give anyone interested a fair warning. I was in room 203. The shower would not get hot at all. The floors were torn from the bedframe. The bedframe also is a platform style in a small space so I have a bruise on my leg from that. I understand it’s a hotel but I could hear people having relations practically any time I was in the room. The lighting isn’t the greatest in the bathroom so if you do makeup consider bringing a light up vanity mirror or ring light because I had a hard time seeing what I was doing. Location is good but so is a nice warm shower.
First off, the staff is great, rooms not so much. There was a bleach stain on the comforter and for some reason no microwave. The toilet placement is for children or anorexic adults. There's no parking lot so just know that going in. Other than that it's walking distance to the main strip downtown if that's important to you.
Here is a detailed explanation of why I did not enjoy my stay here and a few things to consider. I want to mention first that all of the employees here treated me well. Specifically Meril. The photos depict a beautiful historic hotel with a casual ambiance, nothing too fancy. That’s what I was expecting. We booked for a two queen bedroom. When we walked into the room, we were greeted with the standards of a Motel 6 room. It was old, not cleaned properly, and semi stinky. The mirrors in both the room(s) and the elevator were covered in fingerprints. As a housekeeper myself, I could tell that the bathroom was a second thought. The soaps weren’t placed professionally by the sink or in the shower. This isn’t me looking too deep, it shows they are okay with cutting corners and not holding themselves to a higher cleaning standard. Once I realized this was not what I paid for, I went downstairs and spoke with Meril. I kindly explained that this was not at all what their website photos show and if there were a way I could get the room I saw online. I was told that they couldn’t take a photo of every room so that was just a room that is shown while booking. (aka a model room) Meril let us see two other rooms that were available. We walked into the first and it was another unsatisfactory room, only this one smelled horrid. We walked down the hallway to the second room which is the one we stayed in. It was better. It had two beds, a decent bathroom, and a pretty view. Silly of me to forget pictures of that. This was room 616 if you want to request it. When we came back from a night out, we found out we had no hot water. I ran it for about 5 minutes before going downstairs. I was quite frustrated now. I went back and forth with a man named Eurk, I don’t know how to spell it. He kind of brushed me off and made me seem like a nuisance for complaining about not having hot (or warm) water in my hotel room at midnight. He brought me to a room across the hallway (611) and tested the water. He said I can shower and use the bathroom until morning. I washed my face in the sink and went on with my night. When I went to shower the next morning, I saw two used washcloths and exfoliating gloves hanging over the curtain, which I’ve included in the last photo. I truly almost burst into flames. If the housekeepers can’t even pull down a used washcloth… do you think they’re cleaning the handle of the toilet well? Anyways, I took a lukewarm shower in my room and had to accept the circumstances until the end of our stay. I spoke with another man who’s name I can’t remember and he gave me his sincere apologies. He said the water heater is too small for the hotel. Whoever owns and/or runs this hotel needs to address this immediately. It is clearly stated on their website that they have no parking but I’m here to warn you… the parking garage is down the road. Good thing to keep in mind if you don’t have a rolling suitcase. Otherwise not a big problem. I would not recommend this hotel but the location is a great spot for walking downtown.
We had a wonderful stay at the Ponce de Leon Hotel. The location is perfect—close to great restaurants, the bay and everything downtown has to offer. It is a boutique hotel with lots of character, and the rooms were clean, and comfortable. What truly made the stay stand out was the exceptional customer service from Eddy at the front desk. He was welcoming, professional, and genuinely kind from the moment we arrived. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth, answered questions with a great attitude, and made us feel truly valued as a guests. He made a lasting impression and is a real asset to the hotel. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Ponce de Leon Hotel.
An old and historic hotel and that’s exactly what makes it special. You can feel the history in every corner of the building. Plus, its location right in the heart of downtown means you can reach everything within walking distance. Special thanks to Beril for making my stay even more enjoyable! I will definitely be back. ?
5.0 out of 5 stars – Absolutely charming and highly recommend! I just stayed at the Ponce de Leon Hotel in downtown St. Pete, and it was fantastic from check-in to check-out. This historic spot has such a cool vintage vibe—think classic 1920s architecture with all the comforts that really captures the charm of old St. Petersburg. The room was spotless and very clean, which is always a top priority for me. Everything was good enough and well-maintained, and the price and location couldn't be better—right in the heart of downtown, steps from great restaurants, the waterfront, and all the action. But what really stood out was the staff, especially Eddie at the front desk. He was super accommodating, incredibly friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Eddie truly made the stay special—he's amazing and deserves all the shoutouts! The cleaning lady was very welcoming and helpful too. I'll definitely be back and would choose this place every time I'm in St. Pete. If you're looking for a good price, clean, character-filled boutique hotel with outstanding service, look no further. Thanks again, Eddie—you rock!
Ponce De Leon Hotel is a charming and historic hotel with a great atmosphere. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the building has a lot of character that really sets it apart from typical hotels. The staff is friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. I’d especially like to thank Gizem for her support and attentiveness her professionalism and care truly made a difference. You can tell the team takes pride in what they do. The location is very convenient, close to downtown, restaurants, and local attractions. Overall, a wonderful place to stay if you’re looking for a welcoming hotel with history and personality. Highly recommended.
The Ponce De Leon Hotel is perfect for our needs! Walking distance to the pier, stadium and park. Perfect central location that isn’t as expensive as all the other hotels around. Know that this is an older hotel so smaller rooms and bathrooms with that older world charm. Though I will say they offer nice toilet paper! I also like the LED light from the showerhead lol Service is friendly and super accommodating. Mahmut and Gia were always there to help! There is no parking, but you can park up front by the restaurant next door’s valet to check in and drop off your stuff then park across the street for $16 a day.
Nope! Don’t care what you read this hotel is horrible! Couldn’t get tv on because there were three remotes and you have to change the input. Shower has no pressure at all. Couldn’t wash my hair. Room is extremely small with no room in bathroom or room for luggage. We had this tiny trash can so no where to throw trash away. The bed is hard as a rock! I am in so much pain from the bed I should’ve just slept on the floor.
This is an OLD hotel and understand the 3 star rating. I gave it 4 as I love the history and the LOCATIO is fantastic for all things downtown St. Pete. Parking is tricky... expect $16/d for public parking. Accommodations exceedingly basic but if you're just looking for a comfortable bed to rest at night, I would recommend. If you like the "nicer" things in life, look elsewhere.
