This older property offers a mix of cleanliness and comfort at a reasonable price point, but guests frequently report significant maintenance issues, safety concerns regarding room condition, and billing disputes. The location is convenient for nearby businesses but lacks dining options.
Walked into the first room and it smelt like marijuana told them about it and got oh the house keeper didn’t say anything then gave us a different room still smelled but was definitely trying to cover up the smell with air freshener and there was something on the walls food or stains and the head boards of bed where gross and peeled all apart and I moved the pillows and they felt absolutely gross and disgusting I don’t even dare check the sheets or blankets. The smell gave my husband and I headaches we actually checked out with in two hours of checking in and went to a different hotel. When my husband checked out the guy say well why didn’t you complain about the second room. Have been on hold for over 20 to get a refund. I will be ver surprised if I see a refund.
It’s an older hotel that has had quality work/upgrades completed. The rooms were clean and quiet. It’s definitely a nicer hotel than what the initial outside impression was. There was a minor issue with checkin because they had a sign in the lobby with an checkin time of 2:00, and they initially wanted to charge me for an early check in at that time because they stated, “ the sign was old and wrong, their checkin time has changed and is 4:00.” But they said they would wave the fee. So no issue there. Other than that, great stay.
Overall a nice hotel but has a few areas which could bring it from nice to very nice. ROOMS Rooms are basic but functional. Some areas such as lighting, and decor could be added to. Bathroom was very clean but again the chrome areas could be polished up as they look stained. However I DID sleep very well every night, despite having a roadside room. SERVICE Very Good Service from the Staff BREAKFAST This was minimal, it would be nice to have something like Raisin Bran instead of the sugary cereals on offer - and perhaps some bananas or something on offer. Maybe that's just me. I had a coffee and a bagel which was something. PARKING Safe area for parking - lots of room I was going to give a 3 star but they are really trying and they do their best to provide a good service. I work in hospitality so I am probably noticing things from a hoteliers point of view. But I got some work done, I rested well and it was a decent location for us. I enjoyed my stay.
Misleading, Unsafe, and Charged for a Stay I Didn’t Even Use I stayed at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Clearwater/Dunedin in Room 301 from January 2–3, 2026, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. In fact, I didn’t even sleep in the room at all, yet I was still fully charged. The room looked nothing like what was advertised, and I felt completely misled upon arrival. The bed was caving in, making it unusable. The bedding consisted of only sheets and one thin blanket, and when I asked for an additional blanket, I was told they did not have any available. The condition of the room was unacceptable. There was a hole in the wall under the bathroom light switch, along with cracks in the walls and ceiling. On top of that, the curtains did not close all the way, allowing people outside to see directly into the room. This made me feel unsafe and extremely uncomfortable, which is the main reason I chose not to stay overnight. I went to the front desk to request a refund and was told they could at least refund one day. Despite this, and despite checking in on January 2 and checking out on January 3, I was charged for two full days for a room I did not even stay in. Between the misleading room presentation, poor maintenance, lack of basic amenities, safety concerns, and billing issues, this hotel does not meet the standards expected of a Wyndham property. I strongly recommend that travelers avoid this hotel and book elsewhere.
It was nice and clean. Friendly atmosphere and service. I liked the make your own waffles at the breakfast bar. Nicest hotel in the area for the money.
I needed to check in early and they went out of their way to meet it happen. It's an older motel but they did a decent job modernizing it . No issues, everything worked and the room was very clean. I WOULD GO BACK AGAIN .
Other than all the construction is going on around this place, I have really been enjoying my stay here. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean. The only downside, the location. There is absolutely positively no food close by that you can walk to you have to drive to everything. Other than that very enjoyable stay.
This hotel will definitely be turning me off from ever staying at a Wyndham. I was checked in by a lovely gentleman named Tim. However, my room was atrocious. Dents, water damaged furniture, holes in the wall, etc. bathtub didn't drain appropriately. The bed was really bad, and there were three small pillows that came on a king sized bed. There was a sofa bed that looked like it had been dragged out of my aunt Ethel's moldy basement. The curtains had rips in them, and there was no transparent curtain so it was either let people see in my room or be in complete darkness. I really can't understand why they rented this room out. Absolute garbage. And not all "free hot breakfasts" are created equal. Awful coffee, one waffle maker but mostly toast and whatnot. Not even any juice or anything. I'm not picky, but I've had better coffee from a hospital waiting room. Very disappointed.
I had read some bad reviews on Google. So I was little apprehensive about my one night stay with family. It is true that the entire set up looks a bit like Motel but I was very happy with the cleanliness of the room I was provided. No funky or cigarette smell, clean sheets, two decent sized queen beds, a fridge, a microwave, a clean washroom, an ice machine at first floor (I even found a paid guest laundry machine and drier there at the first floor, although I did not need to use it)... what more can one ask for at that price? Even the breakfast was decent enough. Coffee/Tea, Bread/Bagel, Banana, Waffle... all good enough and fresh enough to start the day. Mr. Tim, the manager, was very helpful as well. I did not use the pool but the sitting area adjoining the pool was great! Even the one at second floor just overlooking the pool was also really awesome! The location is great... Walmart neighborhood market is not very far off (in case one needs supplies) and there are several eateries on the same stretch of the road.
I decided to take a hotel room for the day while my dog got spayed at her Dunedin veterinarian so that I could sleep and be close by to pick her up rather than drive back home to St Petersburg and then back up to Dunedin. I was charged $30 for early check-in, on top of the daily rate and in spite of intending to check out after her surgery around 6:00 p.m. ish. I was woken around 3:00 p.m. by construction going on drilling and hammering !I called the front desk and was told " there's absolutely no construction going on in the hotel!!!" However in fact someone WAS doing work on the roof directly above my room. According to the front desk attendant, the general manager of the hotel, on the phone, refused to compensate me for any part of the price!
