The Sheraton Sand Key Resort offers a beachfront location with multiple pools, a renovated gym, and direct beach access. Guests consistently praise the friendly staff and convenient access to Clearwater Beach, but some reviews highlight issues with room cleanliness, noise levels, and inconsistent service. While the property boasts modern amenities and a pleasant atmosphere, certain aspects require attention.
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The rooms were spacious, very modern, and featured a beautiful, well-equipped bathroom. **Gym:** The gym is large and recently renovated. The equipment is modern and thoughtfully selected for a hotel gym. In addition to several cardio machines such as treadmills and a stairmaster, there is a good range of weightlifting equipment, including dumbbells and a cable machine. **Pool & Beach:** There are several pools, including a warm whirlpool with a beautiful beach view and a large pool for swimming and relaxing, both with a pleasant temperature. The hotel also offers direct beach access, which makes it easy to enjoy the ocean. **Staff:** The staff was very friendly and helpful. Guests can rent bikes free of charge for up to two hours per day, which is a great extra. **Location:** The hotel is located right by a beautiful beach and park. You can also take a bus to Pier 60 for $2.25; it runs approximately every 20 minutes. Overall, highly recommended. One small note: the toilet paper was one of the worst we have experienced in all Florida during our 2 week stay. So thin
Valentine’s Weekend Stay – Extremely Disappointing Experience We booked a Valentine’s weekend stay and paid well over $1,200 for two nights in a 6th-floor king room with balcony and ocean view. We checked in Friday around 4:30 p.m., expecting a relaxing oceanfront getaway. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving by 1:00 a.m. The guests in the connecting room next to us were extremely loud and disruptive well past 11:00 p.m. — shouting, cutting up, and making it impossible to rest. We called the front desk twice and contacted security, but there was no meaningful resolution. While the staff was polite, the issue was never effectively addressed. The hotel’s solution was to downgrade us to a two-bed queen room with no ocean view. That was a significant downgrade from the premium king oceanfront balcony room we had reserved and paid for, and it did not feel like an appropriate remedy. Additionally, the recently remodeled rooms feel sterile and lack the warmth and comfort one would expect from a high-end oceanfront property. No refund or partial accommodation was offered, so we ultimately lost the entire $1,200+ for a stay we could not complete. If you are seeking a peaceful, romantic, or relaxing stay — especially at premium pricing — I would strongly recommend caution. Based on our experience, management did not provide an adequate solution when faced with disruptive guests.
I am writing to share feedback regarding my recent stay 2.12-2.16 at this property. As a Platinum Bonvoy member who utilized points for this visit, I had a stay that was highlighted by exceptional service but unfortunately marred by some smoking that was happening in our hallway to room.. I wanted to leave 5 stars... But couldn't I want to start by recognizing the phenomenal staff members who made a positive impact. Brendan at the front desk provided a wonderful check-in experience. Randy in the Mainstays Tavern took VIP-like care of us every time we visited, as did Lexi during our dinner. Jordan out folding all the pool towels. David maybe giving rides via golf cart to beach - very nice and appreciated. I also want to thank staff for the thoughtful birthday note and the "sun and fun" package waiting in our room. Additionally, Debra was incredibly kind when we stopped in for breakfast!! However, I found the digital portal communication to be less than desirable. I had to report a smoking violation at least four times. I also reported guests using the hot tub after hours due to the noise while I was trying to get my family to bed. While I did speak with the front desk night manager, who was apologetic regarding these repeated nuisances, I left feeling that my value as a loyal guest was not fully recognized. I appreciate the high level of service provided by your hospitality team and hope this feedback helps improve the response consistency for future stays. Respectfully, Bryan Smith Platinum Bonvoy Member
We've stayed at this location a few times and the location is excellent. Rooms are nice and welcoming and the balconies are a nice amenity. Shower pressure was good and the water was warm. You can leave your hotel room and never leave the property as you walk to the beach. There is a heated pool, sand volleyball area and hammocks among other amenities. The gym is fantastic! It really creates an environment that encourages you to workout! You can also catch the trolley to Clearwater twice each hour for free. There is a parking fee so be aware of that. You can also rent bikes through an app, but there is a charge to use the bikes. There is a shop onsite for snacks and other things like sunscreen, magazines, etc. I thought it was very thoughtful that the hotel has beach accessible wheelchairs for guests to use. That is such a nice consideration. I didn't like that the luggage racks that are used to transport luggage from the car to your room appeared to be locked. I didn't bother to ask how it could be used. I was surprised to realize the rooms did not have a microwave. Seems like something that should be an easy fix. I also wasn't thrilled with the hotel breakfast. It lacked simple staples like pancakes or waffles which would have been nice to have. I must mention that the service provided by Minerva Birriel in the hotel restaurant during breakfast on January 30th was phenomenal! She was an absolute professional and provided friendly service. I do want to thank the staff for keeping our cooler frozen so that my wife's breast milk would remain good. That was greatly appreciated.
I would like to share my major dissatisfaction with the way Marriott Bonvoy handles reservations, and especially with its Best Rate Guarantee. On three separate occasions, I provided clear evidence of lower prices found on third-party websites. Each time, Marriott Bonvoy either deliberately or not delayed its responses, only to later claim that the 48-hour deadline had been exceeded. Responses were often sent late at night (between 9:38 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.), following my messages sent early the same day (around 6:00 a.m.), which makes any follow-up within the allowed timeframe almost impossible — and clearly gives the impression that this deadline is being used as a strategy to deny price adjustment requests. I was also denied a price comparison on the grounds that the third-party site supposedly does not transmit reservations to the hotel, which is completely false. I booked through that site and then confirmed directly with the hotel, which did indeed have my reservation on file. Result: I saved approximately $1,000 by booking through a comparison site, even after accounting for the so-called 25% discount offered by Marriott — a discount applied only to their own selected rates and never to the rates I personally provided. To put things into perspective: Marriott direct price initially: approximately $5,900 USD for 10 nights Third-party site price: approximately $4,400 CAD (? $2,900 USD) for the same 10 nights ? A difference of approximately $3,000 USD for the exact same reservation!!!!!!! This is simply unjustifiable. Comparison websites clearly offer far better prices, and this experience confirms that shopping around is absolutely worth it — despite Marriott Bonvoy’s promises of offering the best rates. Important to note: The hotel itself is excellent. The location is beautiful, the on-site staff is professional, and the amenities and restaurants are very enjoyable. I have stayed there before and have always liked the property. My 0% rating applies only to: the interactions with Marriott Bonvoy the handling of price match requests the lack of transparency and the clear impression that loopholes are being sought to avoid applying their own policy An extremely frustrating and disappointing experience for a program that claims to reward loyalty and offer the best prices.
Older property and expansive. Rooms have room wide balconies which a smoker really appreciates. The $20 breakfast buffet was a pretty good value and much better than the free breakfast at 3 star hotels. The pool area was nice and easily accessable but the huge 30-40 story condo building immediately next door to the south blocked the sun and we had to keep moving around to stay in the sunlight. My stay was in early December. so I'm sure after March-April it isn't a problem and not a knock on the hotel because obviously they can't do anything about it. Overall though it was a great one night stay and I look forward to staying there again, but for longer next time.
Great location however rooms and restaurants are dated. Rooms have super small bathroom very hard to move around. Rooms are nowhere close to the rates they are charging. Breakfast service in the morning was good. The staff in breakfast area is very good and serve many buffet options. Pool area is nice. Pool bar is ordinary. Beach accessibility is super nice. Frontdesk staff requires training as they incorrectly charged me parking despite included in my corporate rates. Overall not worth the price charged. I would avoid clearwater as it's bit far from all dinning options and the road is filled with cops. Found people talking in balcony until 4 AM. Upon complain staff did nothing.
We stayed here in 2021, while visiting family in Clearwater. The room was very nicely appointed, clean, comfortable, and had a nice view. We had breakfast there every day and it was outstanding! There is a very nice private beach that is peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed spending time there each day of our stay. The location is within close proximity of many nice restaurants and shopping locations.
We hosted our daughter’s quinceañera at Sheraton Sand Key Resort, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. We also celebrated our oldest’s quince there in 2023, and we knew we had to come back for 2025 because of how incredible the staff and event team are. The entire team was over-the-top accommodating, warm, and genuinely attentive to every detail. They made us feel so welcome and cared for every step of the way. The event coordinator and staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly, allowing us to truly enjoy the night and create unforgettable memories with our family and friends. Truly the best staff ever — professional, kind, and exceptional at what they do. We are so grateful and couldn’t imagine celebrating anywhere else!
An excellent hotel without a doubt! I’ve recently attended several conferences held here, and everything went wonderfully. The service is outstanding, as well as the food and the staff! It has exclusive access to one of the best beaches in Clearwater, with some of the most beautiful sunsets! An excellent place to enjoy a short vacation or a few business days.
